Tribute to Councillor Barbara Smith

Posted on

It is with deep sadness I announce the death of one of our Councillors Barbara Ann Smith. Barbara was an ambassador for our village.

Barbara took great pride in her role as parish councillor. All of us at Sutton-in-Craven Parish Council send our thoughts to her family. We will miss her greatly.

Barbara lived in the village for over 43 years, worked as a nurse at Bradford Royal Infirmary for most of her career. She took a keen interest in village life, the welfare of Older people and the disabled.

Barbara was elected on to the Parish Council June 1995, she became chairman 1996-1999.

She has dedicated over 22 years being a Parish Councillor for Sutton-in-Craven. She gave 110 per cent to her role and was always there to give advice and offer a hand.

Barbara was part of the Sutton Park Restoration Committee and played a major role in obtaining funding for the restoration of the park 2002/2003 and overseeing it.

She attended and represented many committees and organisations including the Patient and Carer Panel, Airedale Hospital, The Community Centre (previously the Senior Citizens Centre), South Craven Elderly Initiative Group which received a Queen's Jubilee award, South Craven Over 50's Forum which celebrated its 20th anniversay in 2015. Barbara was the secretary and involved in the group since 1994.

Barbara worked hard, was widely respected. She's been a great advocate for the village and she will be greatly missed.
